In April 1997, advanced gymnasts from Notts Bigwood and Rushcliffe Gymnastics Club joined forces to share the newly built East Midlands Gymnastics Centre facility at Rushcliffe Leisure Centre in Nottingham.
Under the leadership of Director of Coaching, Claire Starkey, the new Notts Gymnastics Cub has gone from strength to strength. Claire and her team of dedicated coaches have nurtured such talents as Emma Prest (Senior GB international), Amy Dodsley (selected for GB Olympic team in 2004) and Becky Downie (current British Espoir Champion and Senior international team member at 13 years of age!)
Other young talents at the club include Laura Jones (3rd in Espoirs 2004), Niamh Rippin (3rd overall at Level 3 2004), Ruby Straw (British Voluntary Champion, 2004) and, of course, Jordan Lipton.
Notts Gym Club now has over 80 members and the standard varies from youngsters who enjoy a fun session twice a week to introduce them gently into the world of competitive gymnastics to gymnasts who train for over 25 hours per week and compete for British titles. Details of the different sessions can be obtained from the reception desk at the Rushcliffe Leisure Centre Tel. 0115 9234921
